Switch Signalling Power Supplies

Course Description

This course uses an innovative virtual reality environment to allow you to safely switch the power supply to the signalling system to an alternative power supply, including mobile generators and UPS’s, and to switch off the power supply to a particular signalling feeder if required. It will also make you aware of any faults that may occur as part of this task but how to resolve them is not taught as part of this competence.
You will gain knowledge, understanding and skills of:
• Health and safety information and procedures
• How you would plan to switch signalling power supplies in
different scenarios
• How you would conduct a switching operation, including the
connecting and switching of mobile generators, in different
scenarios
• Documentation requirements when conducting a switch
operation
• Use of good communication skills when conducting a switch
operation
By the end of the course if the assessments are successfully passed,
you will gain Level 2 competence and then must complete a period
of Action Learning to be awarded Level 3 competence by your Line
Manager.

Course Description

This eLearning comprises 5 modules, which must be taken sequentially and form a learning path. Module 1 This module aims to build on your current knowledge of safe working practices on and around the electrical equipment which forms the signalling power distribution system. This will be achieved by introducing you to a new set of safety instructions which have been produced. Module 2 This module will help you to understand Live and Dead working on or near signalling power distribution equipment above 175 v ac and will explore the flowcharts designed to help you plan work in accordance with NR/SPS S001. Module 3 This module will help you to understand the Live Working requirements in accordance with NR SPS / S002 and how to check tools and protective equipment. Module 4 This module will help you to understand the Isolation of Electrical Supplies in accordance with NR/ SPS S003 and the basic isolation procedure. Module 5 This module will help you to understand how to safely access equipment housings and the entry and exit procedures contained within NR/SPS S004.

Manager.
