COVID-19: Network Rail Training information

Network Rail Training plays a critical role to ensure the business has a competent work force. During these challenging times where many colleagues are being asked to go above and beyond, we’re working closely with business leaders in our Routes, Regions and Functions to ensure we deliver critical training to keep freight and passenger services operating.

We’ve developed an FAQ for colleagues, which you can view here

All Training plans are designed and approved by our customers (i.e. each Route and Function) and as such, we’re committed to delivering the Training they ask of us. In response to COVID-19, we’re working closely with business leaders and the Strategic Crisis Management Team (SCMT) to make sure our training offering supports critical functions.

We’re also developing new services to help teams with colleagues that are responsible for business continuity and those stepping into new roles. We recognise many colleagues will need to:

  • Acquire new skills and occupational competences to perform their role safely (e.g. through Skills and Operations training)
  • Operate Business Continuity Plans – Routine projects and programmes have been put on hold to focus on this as a business-critical priority

  • We appreciate frontline teams operate around the clock and as such, this page will be dedicated to providing the latest news and information. You can access this information anytime at work or at home, using any device.

    Routes and Regions:

Our priority is to develop local plans with each Route to ensure we continue to deliver critical training to keep freight moving and deliver passenger services.

  • Skills/Ops Training will continue - if a Route has decided to cancel or postpone a course, all delegates will be contacted.
  • (21/03) Leadership & Professional Development Training – we will postpone training until further notice in response to COVID-19 (with immediate effect).

  • The table below provides a more detailed breakdown and we’ve listed some of the mitigating actions we’ve implemented under ‘Training centres*’.

The devolved nature of our business means our Routes own their local Training Plans. We deliver based on their local needs – we will keep this page up-to-date to reflect local developments and national guidance.

    Functions:

We are continuing to operate training in line with local plans that have been agreed with your function. If a function asks us to cancel a training course, we will notify delegates.

    Sentinel card holders:

All operations are still running to help more than 135,000 card holders access the railway. All enquiries should be made via the 24/7 Helpdesk: 0330 7262 222 / sentinel@mitie.com General information: http://info.railsentinel.co.uk/

    Training centres*:

Training is planned and agreed with each Route. It has been agreed that in order to safeguard colleagues and continue to deliver Training, we’ve implemented the following measures:

  • Training centres will no longer be able to host team meetings or facilitate ‘hot desking’
  • Only scheduled training to go ahead on the premises
  • Colleagues are asked to bring their Lanyards – we will not be issuing lanyards but your normal lanyard will act as photographic ID
  • There’s no requirement to sign in at Reception to reduce numbers in that area – please report to your classroom where you can sign in and present your work lanyard as ID
  • No food will be served in break out areas - lunches will be served in classrooms only. Lunches are already sealed (no Buffett options will be available)
  • Hand sanitisers have been placed in various locations and ask that colleagues follow Public Health England guidance regarding hand hygiene
  • We’ve increased cleaning on high traffic areas – e.g. door handles, bathrooms and tea/coffee stations
  • We are monitoring the situation hourly
  • In the event of our Routes deciding to change the Training we deliver, we will update this guidance. Delegates will be contacted directly if their training is changed.

Please note: A number of admin, planning and support colleagues are working remotely to reduce the number of colleagues in each centre and adhere with company guidance. Please use this webpage for updates.
